Harbour View extended their lead atop the Digicel
Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Rivoli United at
the Compound last night.
Lovel Palmer scored the lone goal in the 74th
minute for his fourth goal of the season from four games to be
joint leading goalscorer with Hughan Gray of Sporting Central
Academy.
With inclement weather hampering a number of
games, Harbour View seized the opportunity to open a three-point
gap over the idle Portmore United and Waterhhouse.
The Caribbean champion became the first team into
double digits on 10 points with their third win of the season.
As for the promoted Rivoli United of St
Catherine, it was their third loss from four games but they
remained in eighth spot on three points.
Despite heavy showers Tivoli Gardens notched
their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Village
United. Discarded national striker Roland Dean pounced in the
21st minute to fire past national goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts on
a rain-soaked pitch at the Edward Seaga Sports complex.
Had it not been for two breathtaking saves from
Ricketts late on the margin of victory would have been wider for
the home team.
In was Tivoli's first win following three drawn
games against Meadhaven, Reno and St George's United.
It was only Tivoli's second goal from four games
and Dean remained the only person on Tivoli's scoresheet so far.
Tivoli jumped from seventh to fifth with six
points while Village stayed 10th on two points.
The Portmore United versus Reno,
Waterhouse/Meadhaven clashes were called off before the games
begin because of waterlogged surfaces at Ferdie Neita Park and
Drewsland respectively.
Meanwhile Boys' Town and St George's were locked
at 1-1 when heavy rains forced a halt to the proceeding after 55
minutes at Collie Smith Drive.
Renae Lloyd had given Boys' Town a fifth minute
lead but that did not last long as Delroy Dennis levelled the
score nine minutes later. Only 10 minutes were possible in the
second period before referee Courtney Campbell had enough and
called it off.
Boys' Town dropped two spots to sixth on four
points while St George's dropped to seventh with three points.
Portmore United remained on seven points from
three games, the same as Waterhouse. New boys Meadhaven are
ninth with two points and Reno 11th with one point.
Over at Brancourt in Clarendon, home team
Sporting Central Academy came from behind to edge the struggling
Arnett Gardens 2-1.
Horace Sharpe scored Arnett Gardens' first goal
of the season in the ninth minute but two goals in five minutes
by Hughan Gray and Linval Lewis, condemned Arnett to their
fourth straight loss.
Gray, the competition's joint leading goalscorer,
netted in the 51st for his fourth and Lewis in the 56th minutes.
Sporting with their second win moved to fourth
place on seven points to be among the leaders.
The pressure continues to mount on coach Jerome
Waite with every round that Arnett Gardens remain pointless.
Last year they barely survived relegation and the former
champions are really struggling.
