NPL ~ Round Seven Resume Sunday November 04th , 2007
Premier League action will resume on Sunday following an impasse between the then ruling Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) over monies owing to each other. Following a meeting between the JFF and the PLCA held at the Federation’s offices on Wednesday, November 7 the JFF has agreed to restart the Cash Plus Premier League on Sunday, November 11, 2007.
On Wednesday October 31, the entire seventh round was cancelled by the JFF claiming that they were owed approximately $4m by the PLCA. But the Edward Seaga-led PLCA in turn pointed out that it is in fact, the JFF which owed them $5m from prize monies last season. That dispute brought a crippling halt to the competition. However, the JFF, with its new president Captain Horace Burrell which came to office on Sunday, November 4, quickly solved the problem and decided that The JFF will continue to administer the Cash Plus Premier League and the PLCA will continue to manage the commercial arrangements of the League on behalf of the JFF. A number of points were discussed and agreed, and they are as follows:
1. All outstanding fees for Referees, Match Commissioners and Referee Inspectors as at September 1, 2007 to date will be paid forthwith by the PLCA
Burrell on Tuesday, November 6, clearly showed his support of the PLCA and quashed rumours concerning his organisation and the PLCA. “The PLCA is here to stay and they have the backing of the new JFF,” said Burrell. “It is important because in order to reach the next level we must have an united body in football outside of the JFF. Due to the inclement weather that has affected the island in recent weeks; the JFF will conduct field inspections at the venues of the 12 participating teams in the 2007 - 2008 Cash Plus Premier League.
The fixtures have been revised and include changes made to facilitate the participation of local champion Harbour View and Portmore United in the 2007 CONCACAF Club Championship. Only four games will be played on Sunday and next Wednesday with a full slate of games set to return on November 25. Jamaica will also be playing two International Friendly games on November 18 against El Salvador and on the 27th against Guatemala. Both games will be played at the National Stadium. It will be the first time in five months that Jamaica will be in action, an inactivity that have seen the Reggae Boyz plummeted down the FIFA world ranking to number 103 after starting the year at 57.
