August Town two-year stint in the National Premier League (NPL) came to an end yesterday after they succumbed 0-2 to Arnett Gardens at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Goals by Kwame Richardson and Kevin Wilson gave Arnett Gardens the important win, which lifted them to the brink of safety while condemning fellow Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) team to the doldrums. Arnett Gardens climbed to 43 points and needs only a draw in their final match against Seba United to stay in the league. August Town, which used four coaches throughout the season, stayed on 35 points, six behind the nearest team with only one game remaining and will be playing parish football in the Super League next season.
At STETHS, home team Reno scored a crucial 3-2 home win over an under-strength Village team. Ricardo Scott grabbed a brace for Reno in the sixth and 17th minutes before Village pulled level courtesy of Devron Clarke in the 27th and Ronaldo Scott in the 75th. National Under-20 player Draion McNain then grabbed the winner in the 77th minute for three priceless points for Reno. The Westmoreland-based Reno jump to eighth spot and into safety on 43 points, as they cannot be overtaken by both Arnett Gardens (43) or Seba United (42) which play each other in the final game. Reno has a better head-to-head record over both teams so regardless of the result Reno is safe. Village United remained in seventh spot on 46 points after making a remarkable third round run with saw them climbed of the bottom to safety.
At Jarrett Park, home team Seba United were held to a 0-0 draw by St George's and both teams will have to wait until Sunday to know their fate. Seba which did not turned up for the game against Reno last week and gave up the points inched to but drop twp spots to 10th on 42 points while St George's stayed 11th on 41 points. On Sunday, Seba host Arnett Gardens while St George's play Reno and only a win is good enough for both teams.
At the top of the table, champion Portmore United edged Sporting Central 2-1 to move to 74 points with their 21 win of the campaign from 36 games. The Clarendon-based Sporting Central stayed sixth on 44 points in their fist season in the top flight. Steven Morrissey in the 32nd minute and captain Anthony Modeste in the 76th scored for Portmore while Levaughn Williams got the consolation for Sporting Central.
Over at Drewsland, home team Waterhouse loss 3-4 to Tivoli Gardens in a seven-goal thriller in a dress rehearsal for the COK Champions Cup all-island knockout final. Former Arnett Gardens, striker Leon Strickland grabbed a hattrick for Waterhouse in the 30th, 72nd and 75th minutes, for his seventh, eighth and ninth goals of the season. Tivoli's replied through Craig Stewart (39th), Jermaine Taylor (51st), Jermaine Gray (63rd) and Roland Dean (81st). Tivoli moved to 65 points while Waterhouse stayed on 47 points.
