Champions Harbour View turned in an impressive performance to blank Village United 3-0 at the Compound and for the first time went atop of the Cash Plus Premier League after three rounds. Sporting Central also registered their first win in top-flight football with a 4-3 classic win over Reno in which Onekie Ford bagged a four timer. Goals by Gregg Taylor (23rd), Fabian Taylor (44th) and an own goal by defender Damion Nelson (67th), earned Harbour View their first win of the season from three games. The Stars of the East moved to fiver points, the same as Tivoli Gardens and Boys’ Town and are just ahead of six teams on four points each. Round two leaders Seba United and St Georges both lost 1-2 to Tivoli Gardens and August Town respectively. The game got off to a fast start with the visitors taking the early advantage but once Harbour View settled the result was never in doubt. The rejuvenated Keith Kelly, Fabian and Gregg Taylor, Lovel Palmer, Ricardo Smith and Richard Edwards proved too much for Village. A lovely passing move involving four players unleashed the overlapping left back Ricardo Smith whose cross was volleyed home by Gregg Taylor in the 23rd minute. The lead was doubled in the 44th minute when Fabian Taylor slid home from inside the box, but all the credit must go to the overlapping Jermaine Taylor who determined run saw him get by a couple of defenders before crossing to Fabian. Harbour View 3-0 up in the 67th minute via an own goal by defender Damion Nelson who tried in vain to control an angled shot by Lovel Palmer.
At the Spanish Town Prison Oval, Onekie Ford scored four times as Sporting Central registered their first win in the premier league with a 4-3 win over Reno coming from two goals down. Ford scored in the 43rd, 64th, 68th and 76th minutes for the Clarendon-based team most famous victory to date. Earlier Kirk Wright gave Reno the lead in the first and 17th minutes and later his teammate Ricardo Scott tied the score in the 73rd minute. Sporting climbed up the ladder on four points with five other teams and are just behind the leaders on five. The Westmoreland-based Reno are second from bottom on two points from three games in the 12-team league.
Over in Jarrett Park, St James, Tivoli Gardens eeked out a 2-1 win over Seba United courtesy of rare goal by Denroy Gordon in the fourth minute and an own goal by Delroy Ellis in the 72nd minute. Substitute Daniel Ricketts scored a consolation goal for the home team in the 84th minute which came too late. Seba were tasting defeat for the first time this season after coming into the game with a win and a draw from two games.
Kevin “Pele” Wilson missed a second half penalty as Arnett Gardens were held to a 0-0 draw by archrival Waterhouse at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Arnett remained the only team not to have scored a goal this season after playing to their third consecutive 0-0 draw.
At the UWI Bowl, August Town clipped St Georges 1-0 courtesy of a Nicholas McCreath 83rd minute strike to move to four points in the closely knitted table in which only four points separate top from bottom. McCreath, a second half substitute tap home a measured cross by David Stultz for the lone goal and August Town’s first win of the season. St Georges remain on four points.
Meanwhile over at the Spanish Town prison Oval, Portmore United and Boys’ Town played to a 0-0 stalemate in which two players got red carded for violent conduct. Boys’ Town Garfield Gillespie and Portmore Rudolph Austin was given marching borders after getting into a heated tussle in which several players got involved. Boys’ Town moved to five points in third while Portmore are just a point behind on four points.
