Boys' Town held to goalless draw by arch rival Arnett Gardens at home

Boys' Town's surge to the top of the ladder was stalled yesterday after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Arnett Gardens at home in their Cash Plus Premier League rescheduled game.

In the other encounter, August Town and St George's SC battled to a 1-1 draw.

Boys' Town started the day in fourth position on 38 points, but knew a win would take them into third spot above Waterhouse FC.

But the Red Brigades encountered a determined Arnett Gardens giving nothing away and had to settle for a share of the points.

Boy's Town had the better of the goalscoring opportunities but was thwarted by the competent Julian McLeish in goal.

Boys' Town remain in fourth on 39 points, same as Waterhouse but behind on goal difference.

Arnett Gardens remain unbeaten in nine games since Jerome Waite took control in early January and inched into a clear eighth position on 30 points.

Meanwhile over at the UWI Bowl, home team August Town had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against St George's.

St George's from Portland, shook the home team with an early goal with just three minutes on the clock.

Dwayne Holmes's angled shot flew past the diving Devon Haughton in goal to silence the home fans.

But the visitors had barely finished celebrating when August Town levelled the scores a minute later.

Midfielder Daniel Shaw proved once again that he is arguably the best freekick specialist in the league, firing home from some 35 metres in the fourth minute.

It was Shaw's 11th goal of the season as he joins Portmore United’s Reon Nelson as joint leaders in the race for the scoring title.

A share of the points was not good enough for the relegation threatened August Town as they remain at the bottom on 22 points, still five behind the 11th placed team Reno of Westmoreland.

The promoted St George's stayed in seventh place on 34 points.

The competition continues on Sunday will a full slate of games.
