That New Year gift couldn’t have come at a better time as Tivoli Gardens was avenging another 0-3 defeat to Portmore and are 27 points to the leader’s 28 points after 15 rounds. The struggling Arnett Gardens continued their woeful form losing their fourth game to be on 15 points, but have dropped in the relegation zone to 11th place in the 12-team league. A worrying situation as coach Max Straw must be having nightmares as to his future with the club.
In the battle of the cellar teams at the UWI Bowl, home team August Town triumphed 3-2 over Village United and eased their relegation fears somewhat. David Lalor opened the scoring in the 25th minute latching onto a through pass from none other than Daniel Shaw. Village, fighting for all they are worth, leveled the scores in the 51st Troy Smith found the net from a freekick for his third goal of the season but August Town once again inched in front also from a freekick. The ever-dangerous Shaw crashed a freekick on the upright and Shawn Henry was there to slot home to make it 2-1. Village was not going away as substitute Fabian Dawkins who replaced Lacon Brissett in the 64th minute, pulled Village level once again in the 67th minute for his fourth goal of the campaign. But August Town was not to be denied and fittingly, man-of-the-match, Shaw, found the clincher in the 71st from one of his trademark freekicks. Shaw is now the leading goalscorer with eight goals from 15 games, a remarkable achievement for a midfielder.
In the late kick off at Jarrett Park, home team Seba United and to come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with St George’s FC. It was English's first game of the season. Waterhouse, since dismissing Peruvian coach Danielo Barriga, have looked dangerous in third on 23 points while Arnett Gardens continued to struggle and Max Straw is odds on favourite to be the next coach to be sacked. Straw was ejected for verbally abusing the referee Dwight Royal, after he ordered the penalty kick retaken because goalkeeeper Julian McLeish left his line too early. Arnett, back-to-back champion in 2000 and 2001, have dropped another position to 10th on 15 points, just two points ahead of the relegation zone after suffering only their third defeat in 14 games.
