Portmore United maintained their six-point lead atop the Cash Plus Premier League despite losing 0-1 to fierce rival Waterhouse at the Ferdie Neita Park yesterday. Portmore, playing with 10-men since the 36th minute after defender Adrian Reid was red carded for striking Garfield Reid, succumbed to the pressure and loss for only the second time this season. Jonathan Williams got the winner in the 53rd minute from a Desmond Breakenridge corner kick that was flicked on by Marco McDonald. Waterhouse continued the dominance over Portmore, being the only team to defeat the leader this season, and moved into third place on 20 points. Portmore remained on 27 points, but still has a six point lead on second placed team Tivoli Gardens which loss 1-2 to August Town.

Tivoli remained in second on 21 points while August Town eased their worries somewhat moving to 13 points, but still second from bottom.
Meanwhile cellar team Village United finally secured their first win of the season blanking St George’s FC 2-0 at the Elliston Wakeland Centre. A Troy Smith penalty in the 77th minute and Omar Allen strike in the 90th couldn’t have come at a better time for Christmas. National player Fabian Dawkins hand a hand in both goals. In the 77th minute, his intended cross was handled by a defender allowing national under-20 player Troy Smith to convert from the spot. Then again Dawkins picked out Allen who slotted home from inside the six-yard box in the 90th minute. However, the Trelawny-based Village remained rooted to the bottom on eight points and it must be encouraging to start the New Year on a positive note.

It was Arnett’s season high ninth draw from 13 games but they were lucky to salvage a point. Harbour View, the defending champions, climbed three spots up the standings to fourth on 19 points, eight behind leaders Portmore United. The loss kept Reno on 16 points, but pushed the Westmoreland team one spot down to seventh.
