The National Premier League (NPL) playoffs was blown wide open after York United scored a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Wadadah while Meadhaven and Rivoli battled to a 0-0 draw. St Thomas-based York United, courtesy of two penalties from Charles Williams in the 61st and 90th minutes and a 82nd minute strike from Jermaine Miller secured a crucial home win to bounce back into contention. Jeremy Bucknor had given Wadadah the lead in the 59th minute but saw their slim chances of advancing dashed and for the first time in many moons, St James will be without a representative in the premier league next season. York with their second win over Wadadah, moved to seven points from five games with one home game remaining against leaders Meadhaven. It's a game York must win to have any chance of advancing. Meanwhile at the Constant Spring Field, home team Meadhaven were held to a 0-0 draw by Rivoli United which stalled their qualification to the top flight. Meadhaven which started the day on nine points from three games, just needed a win to secure their historic qualification to the NPL, the first time of asking. But with third-placed York winning and the Meadhaven/Rivoli game drawn, Meadhaven's celebrations had to be put on ice although they have a game in hand against Wadadah. KSAFA's Meadhaven inched to 10 points from four games and are in the driver's seat to secure one of the two qualification spots. Rivoli from St Catherine, stayed second, but only just, on eight points, but has the easier task of playing the out-of-contention Wadadah on Wednesday. The playoffs continue on Wednesday with York United hosting Meadhaven United and Rivoli United tackling Wadadah.
