Meadhaven United all but wrapped up one of the two National Premier League (NPL) promotional spots with a 1-0 win over York United while Rivoli United stayed in touch, blanking Wadadah 3-0. A Leighton Neita goal in the 37th minute proved decisive as Meadhaven rushed to maximum nine points from three games following wins over Wadadah and Rivoli United. Neita, who was notching his third goal from three games in the playoffs, was once again the hero, converting a Lennox Creary cross from close range. Meadhaven, the home team from KSAFA, dominated throughout and were deserved winners although York got a glorious chance to level the score in the second half. A powerful freekick by Michael Clarke crashed in the chest of the diving Andrew Gibson in goal, but the rebound was viciously kicked wide by Marvin Miller, who could have easily and calmly tapped home. It was the only real chance York got as they had to play second fiddle to a young team comprising Shawn Hunter, Robert Palmer, Lennox Creary, Dwayne Williams, Kenrick Brown, Norman Bailey and Leighton Neita. A win for Meadhaven on Wednesday over the out-of-contention Wadadah will sealed their promotion to the top flight for the first time in their history. Meadhaven leads the standing with nine points, three more than Rivoli United on six with York third on three points and Wadadah still to gather a point from three games.
Over at the UDC field in St James, the visiting Rivoli United continued Wadadah's miserable run winning 3-0 to go second in the four-team group. A double strike from Devon Hodges in the 54th and 90th minutes completed Rivoli's impressive win after Marlon Edwards had opened the scoring in the 36th minute. St Catherine's Rivoli rebounded in style after losing 2-3 to Meadhaven on Wednesday and are favourites to advance alongside Meadhaven to the NPL next season. They are in second on six points, three more than York United which they defeated 4-1 in the opening game on May 18. Wadadah, former NPL champions, was losing their third consecutive game and are basically out of the running for a promotion. Mathematically they have a chance but a lot of permutations will have to work in their favour. The return set of games continue on Wednesday with Rivoli hosting York from St Thomas while Meadhaven travelling to St James outfit Wadadah
