Jackie Bell final ends abruptly in chaotic fashion

The Western Union/Jackie Bell corporate area knockout final between Harbour View and Waterhouse was abruptly aborted in anarchic fashion, following a disallowed goal.

Defending champion Harbour View was leading Waterhouse 1-0 after Kavin Bryan opened the scoring in the 33rd minute.

Harbour View were down to 10-men after playmaker Jermaine Hue was red carded in the 55th minute and the tide shifted in Waterhouse’s favour.

Waterhouse were pressing for the equalizer and thought they got it in the 77th minute courtesy of a fierce freekick from Damion Powell.

Powell’s powerhouse whistled over the head of Harbour View goalkeeper Dwayne Miller but second assistant referee Malachi Brown raised his flag for an infringement and Tyrell ruled a Waterhouse player offside in the process.

That player was ruled to have been in an offside position and impeded the view of the goalkeeper.

But what followed was total chaos.

The Waterhouse players immediately engulfed the referee and his assistant protesting that it was indeed a legitimate goal.

Anarchy followed as spectators began hurling bottles onto the field giving the securities all sort of headache.

Gunshots were fired outside the Compound as players, officials and the police officers got busy scampering for safety.

The game was subsequently halted at approximately 6:45 pm and officially called off at 7:15 pm after a failed attempt by the officials to restart the game and complete the final 13 minutes.

Kingston and St Andrew Football Association’s (KSAFA) president,  Ambassador Stewart Stephenson, will make a decision on the matter after seeing the match report.
