It was a new coach, different result, maximum points, as Arnett Gardens clipped St George’s FC 2-1 after completing the last 33 minutes of their Cash Plus Premier League game that was postponed because of an islandwide power outage last week. Meanwhile in the other rescheduled match, Seba United blanked August Town 2-0, after finishing the last 80 minutes of their match at Jarrett Park. Arnett which have been struggling and lying around in the relegation zone, dismissed coach Max Straw on Monday after a series of poor results. Former coach Jerome Waite, who led the club to back-to-back titles in 2001/02 before he was also fired in 2006, was again handed the job. The game was delicately poised at 1-1 when power failure halted proceedings in the 58th minute last week. Damion Harewood had opened the scoring for St George’s in the 39th minute before Kevin Wilson replied for Arnett in the 51st. The troubled Kwame Richardson, who was rumoured to be heading to Waterhouse FC, made his debut for the season, replacing last week’s goalscorer Wilson, netted the winner in the 86th minute. Arnett Gardens with only their third win of the campaign, moved out of the relegation zone into 10th position on 18 points from 18 games. Portland’s promoted outfit, St George’s FC, remain in fifth place on 26 points, falling 10 points behind the leader Tivoli Gardens.
Over at Jarrett Park, the Seba United/August Town match that ended prematurely after only 10 minutes was also completed. Goals by Delroy Ellis in the 35th and Wilfred Smith in the 75th pushed the St James club to their sixth win of the season and into sixth placed on 22 points. The Theodore Whitmore-coached Seba, also have a game in hand, but are four points behind fifth–placed team St George’s. For August Town, it was cruel blow after suffering their season-high 10th loss of the season. The Hugh McCarthy coached-team, drop to 11th placed in the 12-team league on 16 points. The competition continues on Sunday with a full slate of matches with the big match pitting leader Tivoli Gardens against former champion Waterhouse at Drewsland.
