due ies , former CFU Caribbean Cup holders and many time league champions flies to the Cayman Islands for friendly games against the islands national senior men’s team on March 15 and 16.

The team is due to arrive on the island on the evening of Friday March 14 and will depart on Monday March 17.

These friendly games reflects the next phase of a series of planned training strategies organized by the Cayman Islands Football Association ( CIFA) in collaboration with the  technical team led by National Technical Director Carl Brown to prepare the national team for the critical return leg of the World Cup 2010 Qualifiers game against Bermuda on March 30.

Brown said in a brief interview that Portmore United was a tough team and his team should have learnt a lot from last weeks games against Boys Town to make them better competitors in these games.

“Technically Portmore United is a tough team, after the games against Boys Town these players should have learnt a lot to prepare themselves for these games. It will certainly be a test. We are going to regroup and see how well we can use these games as a measuring stick for our preparations going into the return leg against Bermuda later this month,” Brown pointed out.

Portmore United, formally Hazard United boasts some of Jamaica’s best football talents and is administrated by some of the most organized and professional board members who have made significant contributions to football in Jamaica.

The coaching staff headed by former Reggae Boyz Linval Dixon consists of former Jamaica national players who possess an awesome level of experience and knowledge to technically guide the club to its present position as one of the most feared teams in Jamaica.

Manager of the club Wayne Sinclair said he was happy to have been invited to visit the Cayman Islands as this will definitely give the players experience and exposure playing against a national team as opposed to playing in their local  National Premier League.

“We welcome this trip as it also provides us with competition in the midseason break and it will help to motivate us going into the final phase of our competition. Carl Brown is a favorite son of the Jamaican soil and anything he asks for that is possible we are more than happy to assist him.”

“We are looking forward to play two competitive games and enjoy the hospitality of the Cayman Islands people,” Sinclair concluded

This exceptional football club has developed numerous talents who have gained the attention of the national selectors to form the nucleus of the National Under-23, Under-20 and Under-17 team which has represented the island on several occasions.

Portmore United  have won the championship of the National Premier League several times, the National Under-21 championship five consecutive seasons and held the  Happy Sutherland Knock-Out competition trophy for five seasons before losing it at the final recently.

The club has a very rich and successful history recently placing three of their players in Europe playing professional football with White Star Woluwe FC. They join Claude Davis and Omar Daley who plays for English League Two side Bradford City and an additional two players are competing in top competitions in Trinidad and Tobago as well.

The team captained by Grenada’s national team captain Anthony Modeste could be just what the doctor ordered to put the finishing touches on the Cayman Islands national team to place them ahead in this game against Bermuda and beyond.

The Cayman Islands drew 1-1 with Portmore United last January during a training camp in Jamaica at the Prison Oval playing field.
