Butterfield Bank on board with CIFA

The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) is pleased to announce Butterfield Bank as the newest sponsor on board with the Cayman Islands National Football team as they prepare for the road to South Africa World Cup 2010 qualifiers return game against Bermuda on March 30.

Canover Watson Chief Financial Officer of CIFA received the cheque from Monique Bush Marketing and Communications Coordinator last Monday on behalf of the association at the bank’s head office.

“On behalf of the CIFA family I thank Butterfield Bank for their kind support in sponsoring the Cayman Islands national football team at this time as they push forward in this crucial return game,” expressed Canover Watson, Chief Financial Officer of CIFA.

According to Monique Bush, Marketing & Communications Coordinator for Butterfield Bank they were impressed by the recent performance of the team in the first leg played in Bermuda last February and decided to come on board to be a part of the corporate support the team needed to go forward in this tournament.

"Butterfield Bank is thrilled to be a part of this event which promises to captivate a global audience of sports enthusiasts. With Cayman having done well overseas, we give them our full support at home. We wish the team the best of luck and look forward to their success!"

“The Cayman Islands national football team recently returned from Bermuda where they competed in the first leg of a FIFA 2010 World Cup qualifying match.  The game resulted in a draw, which gives Cayman an advantage having scored away from home.”

“Bermuda will be traveling to the Cayman Islands for the return leg on March 30 and Cayman needs to either win, or achieve a 0-0 draw to advance to the next round. If the team is successful in moving on to the next round, this would be a huge accomplishment and something that has never been achieved in the history of football in Cayman.”

It would also mean that the next team we would have to face would be Trinidad and Tobago, the World Cup finalists in 2006. “This achievement would obviously highlight the level of improvement in our team and put football in Cayman in the category that we have strived to reach for years,” Watson stated.

Monique Bush also said that part of Butterfield Bank’s goal is to encourage young people to stay focused and this was why the institution had come forward to make their contribution at this crucial time when the team needed full support from everyone.
