GENERAL SECRETARY’S ADDRESS:

RED STRIPE CHAMPIONS’ CUP LAUNCH

Over the past week the significant value of our domestic league competitions has once again taken center stage.

The overseas contractual agreements penned by no less than six of our players in a seemingly short space of time has not only highlighted the role of the domestic competitions and indeed the natural talent of our players, but has also strengthened for public applause, the role of corporate Jamaica in facilitating the competitions and exposing and developing the talent.

Sometime ago at the launch of another competition the President pointed out that though each sponsorship and competition may be looked at on its own, the fact is that the development of the sport and the players is made possible by the inter-relationship and connection of all the different elements.

We have heard of the new Technical Director trying to develop a philosophy for Jamaica’s football and seeking to get players at the different levels through their coaches singing so to speak from the same hymn book. He has explained that this will help the transition of those players chosen to the national programme much easier. I would dare say this also applies when they reach the international circuit.
